May 28, 2015 ---- Hiking is our favorite pastime, and being in Switzerland is the best opportunity to go out and enjoy the Alps and alpine flowers. I was debating in my head whether to hike up from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg and take the train down or do it the other way around. At the end we decided to take the train up to Kleine Scheidegg and hike on the Panorama Trail to Männlichen and then walk down to Grindelwald.
We took the train from Interlaken Ost to Kleine Scheidegg, which cost about CHF 40 and took over an hour. Once we reached Grindelwald station, we had to change the train to Kleine Scheidegg. The ride was phenomenal and we got a really good view, especially from the right side of the train. When we got to the destination, some people who continued their trip to Jungfraujoch or "The Top of Europe" had to change the train there.
We soon found out that, unfortunately, the Panorama Trail was closed due to snow covering part of the trail, so we had to change our plan. We found the trail "Kleine Scheidegg - Alpiglen - Grindelwald" was clear of snow, so we went for it.
The hike should have taken us only 3 hours, but because I paused to take photos almost every 5 minutes, we took a little longer than 4 hours. Hiking down is less tiresome than hiking up because your heart rate doesn't go up a lot, but it really is hard on your knees, calves and ankles. However, the view of the Alps was breathtaking the whole way while walking down. Pictures speak better than words here!
