Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany

May 16, 2015 ---- If you are looking for a small city worth visiting in Bavaria, put Bamberg on the list! You can stay over night in Bamberg or take a long day-trip from Munich and explore the Old Town, which is listed as UNESCO world heritage site (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/624).

Nathan and I have gone to most cities in Bavaria and thought Bamberg is among those must-see towns. Nuremberg, Bamberg, Würzburg, Regensburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Oberammergau, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are the gems of Bavaria and doable for a day-trip. We took a very long day trip to Bamberg from Munich. Riding on a local/regional train (RE) takes about 3 to 3.5 hours and involves one or two changes. There are also fast direct trains starting from Munich and passing through Bamberg, such as ICE trains, which takes less than two hours. Nathan and I went the slow way because we could use the Bayern ticket for this route and it was much cheaper than taking the ICE.

Bamberg Altstadt, Altes Rathaus, Neue Residenz, Bamberger Dom,  Alte Hofhaltung, and History Museum are all sites worth visiting there. These all can be done in a day if you have 4-6 hours in the city. For more information about attractions in Bamberg, you can check on this website: http://en.bamberg.info/
