Chiemsee and Schloss Herrenchiemsee, Germany

April 19, 2015 ---- Looking for a place to relax with the stunning view of the Alps? Then Chiemsee is the place for you! If your base is Munich, there are Munich-Salzburg trains running past the lake hourly. You can either get off at Prien or Bernau, but Prien is a bigger and more convenient stop. From Prien Bahnhof you can either take a local bus or the historic Chiemseebahn to Prien-Stock where the ferries are located. Nathan and I just walked from the train station all the way to the pier and it took only 20-25 minutes.

For the ferry schedule and prices, check out this website: http://www.chiemsee-schifffahrt.de/

Attractions:  The main attraction at Chiemsee is Schloss Herrenchiemsee or The Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee (New Palace). The ferry ride to the island where the palace is located takes about 15 minutes. At the pier, you can buy tickets to see the the Royal Palace, King Ludwig II Museum, and Augustinian Monastery with Constitutional Museum and Art Galleries. Plan to spend at least half a day there! The palace interior can be visited with a tour only, which is available in many languages and at many times during the day. Check the palace website for current opening hours and ticket prices: http://www.herrenchiemsee.de/index.htm
