Dachau Concentration Camp

Dachau Concentration Camp is located about 16 km northwest of Munich. It was one of the first Nazi concentration camps, built in 1933 designed for holding political prisoners. In the end over 200,000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned here and more than 40,000 were killed. There are permanent exhibitions in the former maintenance building focusing on the fate of the prisoners starting from when they entered the camp to the end of their life or liberation. Entrance is totally free. You can pay for an audio guide (€3,50) and wander around on your own or book a spot on a guided tour of the camp. Prepare to spend at least 3 hours there. Visit the website for more information.

How to get there: Take S-Bahn #2 to Dachau Station then take bus# 726 towards "Saubachsiedlung" to the entrance of the memorial site.
