August 1, 2015 ---- Our time in Europe finally came to an end and we picked Slovenia and Croatia to be the last (but not least) countries to visit. In fact, we didn't really think about going to Slovenia for the trip, but it was on the way to Croatia, so we decided to take a short break and explore the capital before continuing the journey to our main destination. Ljubljana is fascinating. It was touristy yet charming in a unique way. Everybody speaks English confidently and it was so easy to tour around on our own.
Accommodation: We stayed at Atticus Bed & Breakfast for one night. It's located not far from Central Market and Ljubljana Castle. I was really impressed with how well this B&B is run. We arrived really late at night and were afraid that we wouldn't be able to check in because the front desk closed really early and we didn't have any way to contact the hotel. Once we got there, the front desk person had already left, but there was a note left for us with a WiFi password so that I could check my email and get the code to be used to get my room key from the security box and enter my room. Everything was perfect. Room was cleaned, beds were comfortable, and breakfast was great. Nothing to complain about at all.
Transportation: The DB bus from Munich will stop at Ljubljana Bus Station briefly before continuing its journey to Zagreb. The city of Ljubljana is very small and you won't need to take any public transportation at all. A walk from the Bus Terminal or the Train Station to the City Center takes about 15-20 minutes, and that is the farthest you will ever walk.
Food and Restaurants: There are plenty of restaurants in the city. I found Slovenian food isn't any different from Austrian or German food. My favorite is the seafood at the Central Market. Try some fried fish or octopus at one of the food trucks there!
Attractions: I can't say that there is a ton to see/do in Ljubljana, but Slovenia is a beautiful country, so there must be many interesting places to go outside of the capital. In Ljubljana you should spend only a day or two strolling around the city, vising the Castle and some museums. There are a lot of handmade arts being sold everywhere, and some squares and parks are great for people-watching.
Our Trip Itinerary: We didn't have a specific plan for what we wanted to do/see and played it by ear as time allowed. Here is what we ended up doing.
