Ayutthaya : Making Merit at 9 Buddhist Temples

July 4, 2014 ---- Ayutthaya is the former capital of Thailand. It's only about an hour away driving from Bangkok. Thai people nowadays like to make a day-tour visiting and making merit at 9 Buddhist temples in Ayutthaya. Hint: number nine is one of the lucky numbers in Thai culture.

My family and I took a van from the Victory Monument, Bangkok, for 60 Baht each, and the ride took about an hour or so to get to Ayutthaya. Then we hired a tuk tuk for a half-day tour of the temples, which cost 800 Baht.

To visit some Buddhist temples in Thailand, foreigners must pay small entrance fees. Also, everybody has to take off his/her shoes to get inside, so wearing flip-flops might be more convenient. Women must wear long pants or a skirt, at least covering the knees, and no one should wear a hat inside the building with a Buddha statue. Pay respect to any religious sites as locals do.
