Gettysburg

December 14, 2012 ---- After watching the movie "Lincoln," I was really into American History and read a lot about it. Gettysburg was only about an hour away, and our winter break had just begun, so Nathan and I decided that we could make a day trip to see the Civil War Battlefield.

The road to Gettysburg was very interesting. We drove through many small towns that looked like the middle of nowhere. There was a few towns that seemed like a nice place to stop and explore, but we didn't have much time due to the short daylight in winter.

The first thing we did was go to the American Civil War Wax Museum because I had a voucher that needed to be used by the end of the year. It was a nice, interesting little museum that kids would love. I liked their theater and the presentation about the Civil War. The gift shop was also nice, and I got a Gettysburg hat for myself.

Then we drove to the National Military Park&Museum's Visitor Center. It was a nice, big visitor center with a ton of things to do. They sold tickets for the museum, but the Battlefield was free of charge. Nathan and I didn't have much time, so we skipped the museum and decided to do the Self-Guiding Auto Tour around the Battlefield.

First we bought the Self-Guide Audio Tour CD from the gift shop in the Visitor Center and then hit the road following the tour. The Audio Tour CD gave a lot of information on each stop marked on the map. It was a 24 mile tour and there were 15 tour stops. Nathan and I took over an hour to finish the audio tour.

Gettysburg is a nice little town full of history and things to see. I hope to come back here again for the museum in the National Military Park and to walk around the small but very charming town.
